What Is Paintless Dent Repair?

Paintless Dent Repair or PDR is a method of removing minor dents and dings without removing any paint from the vehicle. This is done by very patiently massaging the dent out from the back of the panel using specialized tools.

Does Your Paintless Dent Repair Involve Drilling Or Hole Punching?

No. While we have heard some horror stories about PDR outfits who access dents by drilling or punching holes, we vow to never do that to any vehicle that’s in for PDR without explicit permission from the client. If the dent can’t be accessed, we’ll likely contact you via phone before proceeding in any way.

What Are The Benefits Of Paintless Dent Removal?

The most important benefit is quality. This method is the closest you can get to the dent never happening in the first place. No grinding, bondo, fillers, or primers are needed because your original factory paint is not disturbed. There are no problems with filler or paint shrinkage months after the repair as is typical with most body shop repairs.

Cost is also a major benefit of Paintless Dent Repair. Repairs are typically between one-quarter to one-third the cost of conventional dent repair.

Will My Paint Be Damaged?

Can Any Dent Or Ding Be Fixed?

No. The most important factors in determining if a dent can be repaired by Paintless Dent Repair are depth and location. Dents the size of a dinner plate or larger can be fixed successfully, as long as they are not too deep. On the other hand, some dents that are as small as a dime but very deep, cannot be fixed using Paintless Dent Repair because the metal is too stretched. Cracked paint can also be an indication that a dent is too deep.

The most common dents fixed are the size of a golf ball and under. Most (about 95%) minor dents can be repaired. About 5% of minor dents can’t be fixed due to depth or location. Areas such as some quarter panel opening lips, some forward areas of heavily braced hoods, or the very edges of some panels are examples of bad locations.

What Dents Or Dings Cannot Be Fixed?

There are some exceptions that can prevent the repair ability of the dent. Dent repair will work on virtually all panels of your vehicle, with some limitations:

1. If the damage is 1″ to 2″ from the edge of a door, fender, hood, quarter panel, trunk or roof, dent removal may not work 100%.
2. If there is cracked, fractured, or missing paint at the core of the damage or dent, paintless dent repair may not work 100%
3. Dent repair will not work on pillar panels, rocker panels, or plastic or metal bumpers.

How Does Precision Dent Repair Compare To What They Do At Body Shops?

Paintless dent repair is often a “same-day” service, depending on what other services the vehicle may be receiving. Since we aren’t doing any serious paint or body work, the car won’t need an extended stay at our facility for prep or curing. Some body shops may offer a PDR service, but many would prefer alternative methods to remedy the damage that may include re-sprays & heavy paint blending.

How Can I Have My Hail Damaged Car Fixed?

Step 1, Contact your insurance company. There is no one to blame for hail damage, so you can use your automobile insurance to cover the repairs without penalty. Your insurance company may send an adjuster out to access the damage and advise you on hail damage removal services.
